• To energize believers by breathing the life of God into them (Ezekiel 37:9).

The Holy Spirit breathes life into believers upon their confession of faith, as illustrated in Ezekiel 37:9-10 (NKJV), where the breath of God brings life to the slain, forming an exceedingly great army. The presence or absence of God’s breath in one’s life is directly tied to engagement with the Holy Spirit, as affirmed in Job 33:4: “And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” Every person who believes in Jesus Christ has direct, ongoing access to this breath of life, empowering them to live abundantly.

Understanding the person – Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is recognized as the third person of the Trinity—a gift from the Father and the Son to the body of Christ on earth. He cannot be separated from the Body of Christ, because He is the one God has sent to guide His Kingdom citizens to victory. Although He is revealed as the third Person, this does not mean He is lesser in deity; rather, it signifies the order in which God has revealed Himself throughout history.

In Genesis 1:2, the Spirit of God is described as hovering over the waters during creation. In Judges 13:16, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson for a specific task. These references were initially understood as the power of God, but the Holy Spirit is also recognized as a distinct personality who is God.

 Holy Spirit’s Leading

Romans 8:14 states, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” This verse emphasizes that true followers of God are those who allow themselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit. At its core, this message is about surrendering to the direction of the Holy Spirit in everyday life and decisions.

Many believers mistakenly believe they can live without the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Instead of asking, “What does God or the Holy Spirit want me to do today?” they often ask themselves, “What do I want to do today?” This self-reliance leads to limitations, as we cannot achieve lasting greatness or fulfillment without the Holy Spirit’s revelation, guidance, and power. On our own, we are restricted, but with the Holy Spirit, our potential becomes unlimited. Without His presence operating in us, our lives remain confined.

To experience the full power of the Holy Spirit, believers must be connected to Jesus Christ, the written Word of God. Through this connection, believers encounter a peace that surpasses all understanding, no matter the circumstances they face.

Overcoming Fear and Cultivating Relationship

When Jesus spoke of the promise of the Holy Spirit, He found the disciples afraid—much like many people today who feel overwhelmed by life’s pressures. Yet, despite a world filled with fear, believers can benefit from the life-giving Spirit and have reason to praise God. This requires cultivating a relationship with the risen Christ by actively obeying Him and listening to His Word, which guarantees victory in every situation.

Many people struggle because they rely on their own strength and abilities rather than developing a dynamic relationship with God through the Holy Spirit as a way of life. Experiencing the Spirit’s power requires more than attending church on Sundays. If chaos rules a person’s life, they cannot experience peace, because the Holy Spirit’s presence is grieved, and without His presence, peace cannot be cultivated.

We are designed to live abundantly, sustained by the continuous breath of life through the Holy Spirit’s presence and power.

God’s Desire for His Children

Ezekiel 37:1-14 demonstrates that God’s Word, combined with the Spirit, can bring even dry bones to life. Matthew 26:19 declares that all things are possible for those who believe. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages believers not to be anxious, but to pray and give thanks, so that the peace of God—which surpasses all understanding—will guard their hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The peace given through the Holy Spirit surpasses all understanding. When experiencing fear, believers must evaluate whether they are living apart from the Spirit and neglecting God’s promises. Even the disciples, who were near Jesus, became fearful, illustrating that proximity to God does not guarantee full experience of His presence. If one lacks peace, it is an invitation to return to God’s Word, as the Holy Spirit’s power works in harmony with God’s Word and never contradicts it.

The Importance of Listening to the Holy Spirit

When believers heed the leading of the Holy Spirit, He reminds them of God’s promises and guides them to places of safety and blessing. Ignoring His guidance or failing to seek it leaves believers vulnerable and susceptible to being led away from God’s path and protection.

Reflecting on life, we may realize that many misfortunes occurred because we did not follow the Lord’s leading—whether because we did not seek it, or because we ignored the gentle prompting of the Holy Spirit.
