The three sectors of Kingdom of God – (2) The Inner Kingdom (What is it?)

Dr. Patrick Nyaga

Like I said previously, the Kingdom of God is divided into three sectors

  1. The Heavenly Kingdom / Spiritual Kingdom (The abode of the Trinity, Holy Angels, and the saints
  2. The Inner Kingdom (The heart of a Christian)
  3. The Visible Kingdom (The church on the earth – Body of Christ)

Previously we discussed about the Heavenly Kingdom and today we focus on the inner Kingdom

The Inner Kingdom

When Jesus says, “The Kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21), he’s delivering one of the most profound insights of spiritual wisdom — a truth that has the potential to shift our entire perspective on where to find real fulfillment, peace, and connection. Jesus doesn’t place the Kingdom of God in a distant place, a future state, or a high mountaintop that we need to reach; instead, he points us inward, saying that the Divine realm we seek is already within us.

But what does this really mean? And how do we access this inner kingdom that Jesus speaks of? Through the lens of Inner Knowing Awareness, we begin to realize that the Kingdom of God is not an external destination. It’s an inner reality, one that is always present and waiting for us to recognize and embody it.

Luke 17:20-2120 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

The inner Kingdom is the invisible realm within a heart (the spirit man) of a believer in Christ Jesus. Holy Spirit dwells inside your spirit man and can influence your will, emotions, and desires if you allow Him. This is where you develop purity. You can commune with God in this Kingdom through the help of Holy Spirit without opening your mouth. (Inward conversation).

The inner Kingdom (spirit man) can allow Holy Spirit to detect pride, envy, jealousy, lust and all the invisible sin that cannot be seen or sensed through our natural physical senses. God analyzes our actions in this realm. For example, hatred is seen as murder in this Kingdom. Passionately looking at a man or a woman to lust after them is seen as fornication in this realm. Looking down on someone or seeing yourself as better than everyone else is seen as pride in this realm. The inner Kingdom controls our character and disposition in the visible Kingdom.

Inner Knowing Awareness is a deep, intuitive understanding that arises from within, independent of logical reasoning or external influences. It’s an inner compass that guides us toward truth, clarity, and alignment with our highest self. Rather than relying on learned knowledge or outward validation, Inner Knowing Awareness taps into a felt sense of wisdom that resonates deeply with our authentic self. It’s the calm, steady sense of “just knowing” that comes from a connection to our inner essence or Divine presence.

Living in Alignment with the Kingdom Within (Inner Kingdom)

So, how do we live in alignment with this inner Kingdom of God? How do we let this inner Divine presence guide our actions, choices, and relationships?

  1. Start with Daily Inner Reflection
Spend a few moments each day in quiet reflection or meditation. This doesn’t need to be complex; it’s simply a practice of turning attention inward, away from the noise of the world/others. As you settle into the quiet, focus on the presence and feeling of peace within without conditions. Allow yourself to become aware of this inner presence and allow it to remind you of your true self — this part of you that is constantly connected to the Divine.
  2. Act from Wholeness, Not Lack
When we align ourselves with the Kingdom within, our choices come from a place of inner wholeness rather than need or fear. Before making decisions, take a moment to reflect: Does this choice honor my true self? Does it align with the qualities of peace, compassion, and integrity? Acting from this place of wholeness means that our decisions are reflections of our highest values, helping us live in harmony with our true nature.
  3. See the Divine in Others
One of the most transformative aspects of living from the Kingdom within is learning to see others through this same lens. Recognize that the Kingdom of God isn’t limited to us individually; it’s present in everyone. As we interact with others, especially in challenging situations, practice looking beyond surface behaviors or words and connecting with the shared Divine essence that we all carry. This mindset shifts our perspective from separation to unity, from judgment to compassion.

Jesus’s teaching calls us to explore this Kingdom, to nurture our connection with it, and to live in alignment with it. As we do, we bring the qualities of the Divine into our everyday lives, transforming ourselves and those around us. In this inner Kingdom, we find our truest self — a reflection of the Divine that lights up the world with compassion, wisdom, and love.

Applying vs. Not Applying the Kingdom Within

To bring this message closer to home, here’s a practical look at how our lives are shaped when we apply this truth versus when we don’t. Consider this grid a way to connect the concept of the Kingdom within to our daily lives.
